Koebana Spray Tan FAQ

Summer’s around the corner and every day we hear how harmful the sun’s rays are for our skin. Spray Tanning has taken the world by storm and are preferred by women, men and of course Brides-to-be all over South Africa!

I am going to answer all your burning (no pun intended) questions and I sure hope you are more at ease when booking your Spray Tan.

The first thing I get asked when someone wants to book a spray tan for the first time is “Will I turn orange?” and I suppose they have good reason to ask this. So for all you brides-to-be out there, I have dotted down some information about Spray Tanning and how you can ensure turning orange is not an option!

Is Turning Orange an Option?
If you are a first time ‘spray tanner’ there is no way to say whether or not you will turn orange. The best advice would be to have a patch test. This way you can see if you are going to turn orange or if you are sensitive to the product. A very small percentage of Spray Tans turns orange but majority (80 %+) develop into a natural golden brown.

What product do you use?
I use Koebana Spray Tanning solution. It comes in different shades so that I can consult with my client to achieve the desired look.

How long will it last?
Your Koebana Spray Tan should last from 5 to 10 days – perfect for your wedding day and honeymoon! The great thing about it is that you can still build up a natural tan over your fake one. Most spray tan solutions do not contain a SPF so please remember to apply sunscreen whenever you go into the sun. {Very Important}

Before and during your Koebana Spray Tan:
Be sure to go for any waxing, tinting, pedicures, massages or any other beauty treatments at least 24 hours before your spray tan.
1. Your therapist will ask you to exfoliate your whole body the night before, concentrating on your knees and elbows.
2. On the day of the spray tan – do not apply moisturiser to your skin or any deodorant.
3. Take along baggy clothes and plan your spray tan when you do not have to do anything afterwards.
4. When you arrive at the salon you will fill out a consultation card and discuss your preferences regarding the {tan} colour with your therapist. With this you need to be realistic. If you do not tan very easily and just burn you cannot use a very dark solution otherwise your tan will come off in patches when it starts to fade.
5. Your therapist will spray a pH balancer on your skin and put a barrier cream on your hands, under your feet, nails, tattoo’s or anywhere else she feel’s will absorb to much colour.
6. The solution will be sprayed evenly over your body.
7. You will need to wait 10 minutes for the solution to dry before getting dressed.
8. Once the solution is on, baby powder is your best friend! Apply the powder as much as you need to – to take the stickiness of the application away.
You will need to keep the solution on for 6-8 hours before you can bath/shower. During this time you may not get wet, sweat or wear clothing that will rub against your skin. {No going to the gym ladies.}

How do I maintain my Koebana Spray Tan?
• To maintain your gorgeous tan you will need to apply a moisturiser after you shower/bath on a daily basis. The best would be to get a Koebana Spray tan extender from your therapist, this will ensure the tan lasts longer and fades evenly.
• Avoid long, hot baths or showers.
• Don’t wear tight clothes that will rub against your skin.
• Be careful of products that are harsh on the skin.
• Use a sharp razor to shave, remember your tan will come off as your skin sheds. So any form of exfoliation will make your tan fade quicker.

How long before my wedding day should I have a Koebana Spray Tan?
I tell all my brides that they need to have a spray tan at least one month before your wedding day so that we can get the colour right and to ensure you don’t  have an allergic reaction to the product. For your wedding day I would advise having your Koebana spray tan done two to three days before. If you are already making use of a Sun-Bed – you can combine this with your spray tan. It provides a better overall colour. If you are going to do this on the same day, you need to sun-bed first and have your spray-tan afterwards. For all the brides worrying about the tan coming off on their dress – it won’t; as long as you have at least three showers before putting on your dress.

So there you have it. I hope I have answered all your questions and you are feeling a lot more comfortable about have a golden, sun kissed Koebana Spray tan on your wedding day! For any questions or advice please do not hesitate to email me or visit my website.
